It was back in 2004 that the British conductor Russell McGregor first brought the Johann Strauss Ensemble to Romania for a tour. In December 2024, they will return for the 20th anniversary show in Bucharest.
The Ensemble is based in Austria. Known for his captivating performances at Vienna’s Schönbrunn Palace, McGregor promises a concert that will transport audiences back to the elegant era of Johann Strauss. For this tour, the concert will feature the talents of soprano Elisabeth Wimmer and baritone Thomas Weinhappel, both internationally acclaimed artists whose performances will add a layer of sophistication to the evening. Additionally, a ballet performance will complement the music, offering a visual celebration of the Viennese waltz.
McGregor, celebrated for his collaborations with opera legends such as Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras, will not only conduct the ensemble but also showcase his cherished violin, crafted by Carlo Giuseppe Testore in 1697, adding a unique element to the performance.
McGregor intends to create “a spectacular musical event that promises to be a highlight of the season”. Early bird tickets are available for the first 200 purchasers at a 20% discount.
