“There is no other joy like performing my summer concerts in my hometown Maastricht, with my orchestra,” according to André Rieu. The violinist and bandleader is renowned for his concerts on the main square of his native Maastricht. But he nonetheless spends a lot of time on the road! The big news is that André Rieu to tour again in 2023. His dates for 2023 run right up to November of this year.
Touring with waltzes, opera and musicals
Rieu’s concerts are well-known for their extravagant staging. His touring band is already one of the largest private orchestras in the world. They combine musical romance with fun. Guests include noted tenors and sopranos. But they have also included child prodigies, a bagpipe band and a magnificent horse and carriage. In 2008, he almost went bankrupt for touring with not one but two giant replicas of Vienna’s Schonbrunn palace.
The staging of the upcoming 2023 concert tour has not been revealed, but words such as “spectacular” are often used to describe them.
Rieu tour dates outsell Coldplay
André Rieu remains a unique musical phenomenon. Despite not featuring in celebrity gossip, his concerts outsell mega artists such as Coldplay, AC/DC and Bruce Springsteen. He has sold a massive 40 million CDs and DVDs worldwide, which includes 30 n° 1 chart positions. He has received over 480 Platinum Awards, three Classical Brit Awards for “Album of the Year” and billions of YouTube views.
His latest release, “Silver Bells” , was released in November 2022.
“My concerts are about joy and love!“ says Rieu. “We should make decisions in our lives with our hearts, not our heads. People often ask me ‘how do you choose your program?’ – the answer is: with my heart. I love Johann Strauss but I am also fascinated by Andrew Lloyd Webber or Bruce Springsteen. We should stop limiting ourselves with categories and boundaries – not just in terms of music but in our lives in general” – says André Rieu.
