Vienna’s prestigious Musikverein venue – home to the celebrated Great Hall (Goldene Saal – the location of the annual Vienna New Years’ Concert) – has announced that it plans a number of shows in June, with a full programme from September onwards. This is good news for music fans that might be considering travel to Vienna in 2020.
Austria is one of the European countries that suffered least from the coronavirus crisis. So it is currently beginning a slow return to normal. It recently announced that there was “a glimmer of hope” that a limited programme of concerts would take place in June 2020. However, there are conditions: a maximum of 100 concert-goers would be allowed to attend per concert.
Short version of the Musikverein festival
The management is currently working on a programme that would in effect be a limited version of the planned Musikverein festival. The goal is to bring music back to the house again at the end of the season. More information can be found on the website and social media channels from Tuesday, 26 May 2020.
The sale of the tickets will be done exclusively via their website. Phone, personal ticket enquiries as well as orders by e-mail will not be taken into account.
For further details as they are released, visit the Musikverein website.
Vienna’s primary concert hall
The Musikverein is one of the word’s great music halls, built in 1870 on the stylish Ringstrasse. It consists of six halls, five of which are used for concerts and is home to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The so-called Golden Hall in the photo hosts the New Year concerts.
